Armando Anaya-Hernandez

Armando Anaya obtained his under graduate degree in archaeology at the Escuela Nacional de Antropología e Historia, in Mexico City. Ph.D. in 1999 from the University of Calgary in Canada, under the supervision of Peter Mathews. Armando has conducted archaeological research at La Venta and Pomona in Tabasco, Mexico, Bonampak and El Cayo in Chiapas, Mexico and Oxpemul and Cauich in Campeche, Mexico. Currently his co-director along with Charles Golden of Brandeis University and Andrew Scherer of Baylor University of an archaeological project at La Mar, located in the Mexican side of the Usumacinta River. He has co-authored several papers with notable Maya scholars such as Peter Mathews, Stanley Guenter, Marc Zender and Lorraine Williams Beck. He is currently working on a book about thirteen Maya city-states with Steve Glassman aimed to the general public.
