Christophe Helmke
Christophe Helmke is Assistant Professor at the Department of American Indian Languages and Cultures, Institute of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. He served as co-director of the Belize Valley Archaeological Reconnaissance Project for the 2005 and 2007 seasons, conducting archaeological excavations at the sites of Pook’s Hill and Baking Pot. Between 1997 and 2000 he worked at numerous cave sites with the Western Belize Regional Cave project in the capacity of surveyor, illustrator and field supervisor. His current research is focused on identifying scribal practices and dialects recorded in several glyphic scripts of Mesoamerica. Most recently he has completed a season of epigraphic documentation at several central Mexican sites, (including Cacaxtla, Xochicalco and Teotihuacan) as well as sites in Belize (including Caracol and Xunantunich).
