Patrick Wilkinson
Patrick Wilkinson became involved with the Belize Valley Archaeological Reconnaissance (BVAR) project in 2008, and beginning in the summer of 2010 Patrick is supervising the excavations at Lower Dover, a previously unexcavated site on the Belize River. He is looking at the effects of climate change on the people of Lower Dover, and is attempting to recreate the local climate by, among other methods, examining the ratio of oxygen isotopes in jute shells, and is also continuing the survey work being done in the Belize River Valley. He has a Master's Degree from Eastern Washington University, and in August 2009 began the Ph.D. program at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville as a Distinguished Doctoral Fellow. Patrick is a retired police officer, farrier, and blacksmith. His interests include the Mesoamerican ballgame, the socio-economic structure of the Classic Maya, climate change, and snails.
