The Maya at the Playa Conference is noted for it’s special performances and social events. This year will bring more of the same great programming with a few new additions.

Come listen to the haunting sounds of the forest kings with World famous flautist, Pablo Collado. One evening only.

Chef Patricio Balona of San Antonio Village, Belize will treat guests to the contemporary Maya meal of Pok Chuuk/On Sikil Cax. This consists of grilled chicken topped with ground pumpkin seed and covered with a layer of seasoned corn-based thickened with a mix of mortared roasted tomatoes and ground pumpkin seed. If this doesn’t sound good enough; to it all off with sliced onions in habanero sauce. This will be served with a side of bollos (steamed seasoned corn dough/masa).  Dr. George Stuart will also provide an exclusive lecture during the event. All proceeds go toward student field school scholarships.

American Foreign Academic Research and the Archaeological Institute of America will proudly present the second Maya at the Playa Lifetime Achievement Award for excellence in Maya research to Dr. Michael D. Coe. This event will honor the great achievements of Dr. Coe and guests will be blessed with the keynote lecture, Angkor and Maya: A Tale of Two Civilizations.

Pair your tears with a succulent crab cake at one of the area’s premier restaurants. Guests will have a choice of catfish, meatloaf, pot roast, turkey and dressing, pork chops, crab cake, grilled chicken salad, roasted chicken BLT, chicken sandwich, or hamburger. All meals served with two sides and unlimited soft drinks and tea.

Fill up your stomachs before you hear the keynote address from Dr. Coe. This dinner will consist of Butterfly Shrimp stuffed with seafood stuffing and Beef Tenderloin in a mushroom demi-glaze sauce, paired with Garlic Whipped Potatoes, Vegetables, and Salad. Desert, beer, and wine are included.  Guests will also be included in a reception following the evening event.
